APSCU conducts training programme for women
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU), Naharlagun, conducted a series of training programme for women and youths on cooperative ideology, principles and practice and a leadership development programme at Koronu, Kangkong and Meka in Lower Dibang Vally district from January 8 to 10 last. The programme involved 160 participants including women SHGs, Panchayat leaders, youths and students as well as cooperators of the respective areas.
Development Officer, department of industry, DAO, Agriculture, branch manager, Apex Bank, department officers, ARCS, Roing and faculty from APSCU were the resource persons on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The 23rd Foundation Day of Arunachal Christian Revival Youth Association (ACRYA) was celebrated with full gaiety and devotion today, which was attended by around 1000 believers and delegates from various parts of Arunachal Pradesh at Christian Revival Church, Chimpu.

PPA calls for ending ‘VIP culture’
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) has questioned the misuse of public space by VVIPs.
Drawing the attention of the public towards misuse of circuit house and the state guest house by the ruling Congress Govt, Laeta Umbrey, the lone PPA MLA and the Chief Ministerial Candidate of the Party stated that the misuse of public space and property by the VIPs and VVIPs mostly from the ruling regime has crossed all tolerable limits.
“Hundreds of Govt circuit houses and guest houses across the state are either lying unutilized or are being ill utilized. The huge public money spent on renovation and maintenance cost including water, electricity and human resources are simply proving to be a burden on the tax payers, and it can best be seen as a symbol of VIP culture. The large numbers of buildings, instead of being a revenue earning source of Govt, are treated as private property of the so called legislators and their guests to display their power and status. The frequent misuse of the space for throwing lavish parties and entertainment venue and also a place for secret political discussions are nothing but sheer violation of all norms of decency and misuse of public property”.
Citing an example from Pasighat, Laeta Umbrey stated that a huge five star studded room constructed exclusively for UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Siang Guest House during Pasighat Centenary celebration in 2011 is even today lying unused. Such a ridiculous practice clearly reflects the heights of sycophancy and rampant waste of public money. Umbrey further revealed that if PPA comes to power in 2014 Parliament and Assembly elections, a comprehensive policy shall be drawn to see that public spaces are judiciously and commercially used for maximum revenue augmentation as well as in addressing the genuine problems of the Govt employees on duty.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The members of All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) and All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) on Friday visited Tarasso circle where Assam officials had carried out eviction drive inside Arunachal territory. The team expressed strong resentment against Assam government officials for harassing Arunachalee citizens. The visiting team was led by ANSU General Secretary Arjun Panye and ANYA President Bamang Taji respectively.
“The people of Tarasso are really fed up with repeated encroachment of their land and illegal eviction carried out by Assam officials inside the Arunachal territory. Henceforth, we will monitor the situation and if Assam continues to harass innocent Arunachalees, we will take action accordingly,” stated Arjun Panye. He further added, “People of Arunachal living in boundary areas whether it is in Papum Pare, Longding, West Siang, East Siang or any other place has never encroached inside Assam territory. Our people respect status quo declared by Supreme Court of India and are peacefully living. However Assam never reciprocates our gesture and continues to harass Arunachalee citizens.”
ANYA President Bamang Taji stated that ANSU and ANYA will stand together to protect Tarasso area from further encroachment. He also added that repeated encroachment inside Arunachal territory will not be tolerated anymore and it will have severe repercussion.

Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) vice chairman Likha Tara expressed immense pleasure and happiness over the outstanding performance of the school karate team in the prestigious event.
“Winning 14 medals in their second participation in the highest school level competition in the country is a great achievement for the karate players of the state,” Tara, who also is AKA president, said. He gave full credit for the success to the coaches and instructors.
Arunachal, for the first time, took part in karate in the 58th National School Games last year and won three bronze medals.
Tara advised the players to practice regularly and hard to improve their level of performance. Highlighting the state government’s various sports policies, including 10 percent job reservation for the meritorious sportspersons in three state govt. departments, namely Police, Forest and Sports and Youth Affairs, he asked them to avail the opportunity by excelling in their chosen sport.

Every technician including junior engineer on duty are given clear instruction to “plug in and out” at each hour stoppage time and that is how the department of Power has been managing the power supply at twin town here over the past one month.
Perhaps the power supply in Itanagar this year is at its height of erratic, since it is going by “fast come and fast gone” mode. The power supply left many ecstatic New Year party goers fretting and fuming as many failed to strike on the New Year’s midnight cake with knives when the clock struck 12. It has reduced noisy rock & pop songs party to mere distorting mobile phone party and cut the high decibel spontaneous sports commentary into inaudible audio, overlapped by roaring spectators. It often breaks the rhythm of eloquent power point presenter and forces him/her to fumble in the middle of deliberation.
“Cant’ believe our state capital is facing power crisis especially during this festive season” said Sama Pinda an angry youth.

When contacted by The Arunachal Times, the department source informed that due to decrease of water flow level at NEEPCO’s Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project, Yazali, the required amount of power supply is not reaching the capital. It further divulged that until the water flow level increases at Ranganadi, there are less expectation of improvement of current power crisis as Ranganadi hydro project is generating half amount of power from the existing capacity of 405 megawatt. Moreover the water level can be only increased after rainfall at upstream area of hydro power project, the department added.
To end the power crisis, the state government could buy power from Power Grid; however it would cost high amount and definitely burn the state exchequer, the department further suggested.

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The BJP Yuva Morcha Arunachal Pradesh today held Yuva Sammelan on National Youth Day commemorating the 150th birthday of Swami Vivekananda at Hotel Tosum.
The Sammelan started with inaugural session followed by technical session. In the afternoon session “Parivarthan Abhiyan” was kicked off from Diomukh.
The inaugural session started with lightening of lamp by State President Tai Tagak. Dugh Saha, President BJP Yuva Morcha Arunachal Pradesh in his keynotes address called upon the youths of state to work hard to bring tangible changes in the state and country in field of education, health and hygiene. Street show performed for HIV/AIDS awareness
ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Neeti Society Ziro (NSZ) in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) in an innovative way organized HIV/AIDS awareness programme through Street Show covering about 20 km on January 11 last. A team of 25 artists in full traditional attire came out with innovative models concerned to HIV/AIDS and joined the Phen procession of Subu Sha’s murung festival which attracted thousands of people in every village. In the Phen procession, thousands of people of all age took part covering entire village of Apatani plateau.
The models they used for display like condom, syringe etc were inscribed with phrases like ‘use condom’, ‘never use syringe twice’ etc. They also displayed negative impact of having multiple sex partners through which HIV/AIDS spreads easily. The volunteers who participated with the team carried placards with different messages like ‘Know the AIDS for No AIDS’, ‘Open your eyes before AIDS closes them’, ‘ABC – Abstain, Be faithful and Condomise’, ‘Knowledge is best prevention, from the HIV infection’, ‘Condoms are cheaper than AIDS’ and ‘Avoid multiple sex partners’ etc. They also pasted posters at prominent places in all the villages and distributed pamphlets to waiting spectators.

When neighbour treats you as enemy
Dear Editor,
The consistent barbaric act of demolishing houses and making our citizens homeless by the Assam government is raising many questions in my mind.
Are we an enemy? Are we inferior to them? Are we not in our own motherland? Is this not against the honorabe Supreme court’s order of forming a committee to look into the border issue and maintaining status quo till final outcome is arrived?.
The 'constitution of India' empowers both centre and all the state with equal powers and none is inferior to the other. How can a neighbouring state bully against its own counterpart?. This reminds me of what Germany did to Poland and other countries during Second World War. Also what Iraq did to Kuwait?
It can have serious repercussions in the minds of the people between the two states leading to violent and most destructive outcomes. The tough stance taken by our local MLA is a very welcome gesture and justified. We need to stand by the people of Tarasso and all the people facing similar wraths.
Let us remind our neighbour that, a person can change its neighbour, but a state or a country cannot. The matter needs serious introspections into the border issue and bringing this menace to a permanent solution. I humbly pray to our honorable Governor along with the state government to intervene into this matter at an earliest, before it takes its violent face.

Dear Editor,
This is with reference to the killing of two civilians and badly injuring another
during the cross firing between NSCN (IM) and security forces at Tirap on 2nd January
2014. It is a mean act. Why innocent civilians are made human shields and then butchered
in the name of cross firing and encounters? Whose bullets hit and killed the civilians
– was it that of the security forces or militants? I am in a dilemma. Whom our security
forces are providing security to -
Let not the power and freedom assigned to security forces be abused. Ironically, two civilians killed, one injured and two militants killed, one arrested. Hisaab lag Bag Barabar? This time, on the dead bodies of innocent civilians, the courage, valour and selfless services of our Security Forces will be imprinted and on the other hand, the militants or terrorists as usual will keep on writing their history and achievements with the blood of innocent civilians. Shun violence and make endeavour to live in peace and harmony.

Increase budget allocation for defence ministry
According to report despite government cutting down budgetary allocation for this year, defence ministry in this fiscal till December 31, has been able to spend over 82 per cent of its budget for modernization. They have continued to procure and upgrade military assets, which has seen a whopping Rs 3.25 lakh crore (around $55 billion) being spent over the last five years.
